Week 3 – Sac Challenge 2016

I had the great pleasure of co-writing with Kristen T. Clark this week.  We live in different cities.

Kristen kicked the session off by writing some 13 paragraphs about a past relationship.

Just about every paragraph contained the beginnings of a whole song.  I “randomly” picked a paragraph, as an example, and told her what it meant to me.

We just rolled with that stream of thought, teasing imagery out of it, e.g. breakwaters, tidal waves, storms.

Kristen wrote the music, then we ping-ponged the bridge and here is the result…

pt

Tidal waves on a Saturday
Testing the strength of breakwaters
White caps sweeping, peaking

Breaking breaking breaking through
Breaking breaking breaking through

No shelter in the bay
Lighthouse on the shore fading out
Storm surging, tide rising

Smashing my heart
Crashing over breakwaters

Breaking breaking breaking through
Breaking breaking breaking through

Bashing my dreams
Trashing my life
Drowning my heart
In a sea of lies

Breaking breaking breaking through
Breaking breaking breaking through

Breaking my heart
Guess that's what you do
You take things too far
So I'm breaking, breaking up with you

Tidal waves on a Saturday
Testing the strength of breakwaters
